weekend adventures

quick weekend update:

mom and i spent all saturday afternoon visiting bathroom remodel stores (saw some impressive sinks) as alex and i have plans to add a bathroom upstairs and redo the one downstairs at my little house in north portland. mom held her own the entire time, firing off questions to the salespeople and providing commentary and ideas all the way.

all three of us also made our way to a new (to us) mexican place, autentica, for some tacos al pastor and sopa azteca. very tasty. brought back pleasant memories of my time in Oaxaca--and mom's and my trek up through mexico when i moved back to Oregon.

where was dad? at the beach, taking a bit of time to himself. mom jokingly referred to our afternoon together as "mom-sitting". nah, mom, it's just us hanging out like normal.

A bit of funny I have to add today. Proof that my children are so different an unique. Troy is 4 1/2 and has occasional nightmares about dinosaurs, etc so part of his good night routine is to ask me to watch for dinosaurs and tigers and snakes and make sure they don't come in through the door and windows. To which I always assure him I will. (We also think of 5 happy things to dream about, but thats another story) Kayti (3 years old) has heard this transpire and has started to ask the same thing...'Mom, will you watch for dinosaurs and crocodiles'. But last night I heard the rest of her request. 'Mom, would you watch for dinosaurs and crocodiles and if you see one can you catch him so I can ride him' ...hehehe She has no fear.

The other story, is about the 5 happy things to dream about. When he lays down to bed, Troy will say he doesn't want to dream about something that scares him, so we always think of 5 happy things to dream about. The innocence and love kids have will just melt your heart. One of the first nights we did this, Troy said 'You dream about me, and I'll dream about you' and that is always my favorite one.
