While you might imagine things are mostly serious around here, every now and then some humor happens. Like this afternoon, when Mike, Lorie, Dad, Mom and Mary were thoroughly enjoying a video of Val and Mom doing Zoomba in the kitchen. (Meg recorded it on the sly weeks ago.) Will let all of you imagine Mom and Val sashaying around in the kitchen as they do.

The Hamm Family really knows how to ham it up. I am glad to see you all together. Thank you Nathan for the photos. Our two families met and blended, and have shared many wonderful times together. There is a richness and love that we shall always treasure from: our walks, meals, 'state of the kids' conversations, telephone cups of tea, visits back and forth, blackberries and walnuts , conversations of books and poetry, charades, howling as Diane tells some elaborate tale from her day, a beach weekend doing our colors, and piles of kids asleep on the living room floor. Love come racing to you from the Fairbanks.

Dear Diane:

I went through the Portland, Maine Public library last night and found your 'How Many Feet in the Bed' book there on the shelf in the children’s wing. It’s clearly been enjoyed by many eager youngins. Then I got to thinking about all the points of light you’ve cast…how many of your books are enjoyed daily, all over the place. Plus all the books you’ve sent to Pinpollo and beyond. All the smiles you lit up there with your presence and attention and energy and obvious caring.

And there are certain points where the light really concentrates- Mama Linda’s face at the nursing home in Missoula when you walked in after having not seen her for a spell...she radiated back all the love, support, caring you’ve given her with that one smile alone. Your own rowdy smile upon whooping us all at solitaire in the Hotel California kitchen. Your more quiet, reflective smile on reading to us the contents of the paper slips in your jar that sat in the Salem china closet one Thanksgiving. The sort of terrified-but-always-up-for-adventure smile whizzing around downtown San Francisco in a little electric cart in the pouring rain – and on the back of a moped in San Cristobal (nice job on those racecar driver classes you gave Nathan and Val and Jesse!).

Thank you, thank you for casting all this light about.

Hi, everyone,

I just went to a lady that gives massages (with aromatherapy) and also does Reiki (a Japanese thing that cleans out your "Chakras" and gives you positive energy)

So here I am all relaxed and with my "Chakras" real clean. (they needed it) Just kidding!!!

Well, I'm sending all that positive energy to the Johnston-Hamms...My "sombrero" is off to you all!!!

Di, that lovely smile....you never have lost that. With that twinkle in your eye, like you've got something on all of us!!!

Just love seeing the pics and everyone enjoying everyone else. A Spanish saying "Hay mas tiempo que vida." So true. So enjoy.
