status update

So, here's the skinny on mom:

She's eating better than she has in a long time. It's good to see her actually eating from a normal sized plate. We're still trying to fill her with protein, however, so yesterday we did a smoothie tasting. What did we have to work with? Three kinds of juice concentrate, five types of frozen fruit, bananas, lime, cream, cocount milk, hemp protein powder, rice protein powder #1, rice protein powder #2. Fortunately, we came up with a couple of decent options before I burned the blender out.

Anyway...so, she's eating better. Her legs are less puffy due to better nutrition and a calf and foot massage from her good friend, Sarah. Seems like there is more fluid building up again in her abdominal area, however. We're all feeling that the chemo probably can't come soon enough at this point; good thing it starts tomorrow.

This afternoon, dad, mom and I head off to the chemo orientation class. Only one of us was supposed to accompany mom to the class, but dad put his foot down (go dad!) and we're both heading in with her. We'll share what we learn.

Hi Diane,
I'm thinking and praying for you everyday, and I know you will have another hurdle to jump over coming up. Just remember there are many SCBWIers sending positive thought your way.

Your presence has always seemed strong and sure...do a drawing or two when times get a little tough, and you'll realize what a strong mark you have on this planet. Always thinking and praying for you,

Diane, Jeff and family,

I was saddened to receive Jeff's email on my return from Minnesota and the 40th reunion of my Peace Corps group.

Everything has happened so fast . . . but with cancer, all the better I guess. As Jeff mentioned in his email, things do change in an instant!

We'll be thinking of you tomorrow as the next phase begins. With our thoughts, energy and best wishes,

Lloyd and Susan

(And we'll look forward to getting together whenever and wherever it works for you.)

Hi Dear Diane!

I have been out of town and out of touch. I am saddened to hear of the difficult journey that you and your family has embarked on. I will keep you and them in my prayers and in my heart.

Diane, I am retired now and I LOVE TO COOK! If there is something that sounds good to you....just let me know and I will whip it up and bring it over....delivery with a smile and a hug if you want it! This isn't a shallow offer...I am VERY serious. Just let me know.

I will be awaiting your requests, madame! Take care my friend.

Love,

Judi Gardiner
